Haven't been to Iowa City before? Try some of our favorite places to eat and things to do around the city.
We discovered Shakespeare's on a hunt to find some of the best chicken wings around Iowa City, and it turns out that their wings are to die for! This is a local pub that's only 3 minutes from our house.
Looking for a brewery with an outdoor patio, great food, and even better beer? Go to Big Grove (and try their Summer Jam sour).
This is a really lovely rooftoop restaurant that offers a beautiful view of Iowa City, and it's located atop the Hyatt Place hotel in downtown Iowa City.
Looking for something quick and easy? Consider going to Bread Garden's food market! We often find ourselves enjoying their burritos which, dare we say, are better than Chipotle.
They make the best breakfast bagel sandwiches! Perfect for the morning after a wedding :)
Our favorite Saturday morning activity in the spring, summer, and fall is to head over to the Iowa City Farmers Market. They have tasty food vendors and live music to sit and enjoy.
Interested in seeing some fossils? Head over to the Devonian Fossil Gorge in Coralville, where you can wander and see some real life fossils. This area additionally has some great hiking trails to explore on nice summer/fall day.
In Iowa City, we've both learned to embrace and enjoy the outdoors! One of our favorite hiking spots is Hickory Hills, which is essentially a forest preserve in the middle of the city. It's about a 3 minute walk from our house, and has some beautiful trails you can wander!
Elizabeth couldn't live anywhere without having a favorite local bookstore to visit often, and this is it! Definitely check out the cafe upstairs, which once shared a space with the local literary society in the 1930s that hosted writers such as Carl Sandburg, Robert Frost, Sherwood Anderson, Langston Hughes, E.E Cummings and more!
